Waiting for Spring Outfit

I love the color palette of this- dark greens and brown and gray- very evocative of the time of year it was made. Particularly as this winter seemed to last forever, teasing us with 70 degree days before dumping more snow. I started this ensemble with the intent of wearing it to a friend's knighting ceremony, but it was unfortunately postponed due to a snowstorm.

The base layer is a simple dress of plain white linen. It's cut in my usual way with nothing special. I am very lucky with cutting in respects-

  1. I am, if I was able to stand, about 5'10". So three yards of fabric opened to full selvedge to selvedge width and folded in half to make two- yard and a half long pieces with the fold at the shoulder seam makes the exact length I need for a dress.

  2. Adam is the exact same height as me, which makes it easy to hold garments up to him to get a better idea of length.

My dress/Adam tunic layout looks like this, with minor tweaks for each garment based on fabric width, need, current weight, ect.

The dress is made of an olive-ish brown-ish linen, trimmed with a bit of leftover terracotta colored linen and some woven wool trim that I had gotten on Etsy years ago with the intent to use on a different project. The colors were just too good to not use it here!

I had started a different apron for this ensemble from brown linen trimmed in silk but the longer I left it on the dress form, the more I hated it. Luckily, I had a completed apron in brown and cream herringbone wool in the closet.

The coat is made of lightweight oatmeal basketweave wool, trimmed in linen, silk, and a cotton trim that I tablet wove.

The jewelry is made from bronze pieces with glass and bronze beads.

The gorgeous shawl is made by Historical Textile in Ukraine. They do amazing work and I'm in love with this addition.
