A tisket, A tasket
As I finish up some projects, I keep coming across ones that never got photographed or blogged properly. So: a photo dump of baskets that were finished recently
First up is a quick harvest basket for the farm. Round reeds with a twined base and alternating twined and 3 rod wale sides. This was the first time I tried twisted handles and I really like the way they turned out. It's also the first time I made a braided rim that actually came out the way I wanted it to!
Next: a twill market basket with natural and green flat reeds. The pattern was from The Basket Book by Lym Siler.
This was a kit that my mother in law bought many years ago, lost and then found during a craft room purge and she asked if I would put it together for her. Some of the caning that would have been used to wrap the handle and the basket edge was too dried out and would snap even after a very long soak, so I improvised with some leather. I really like the shape of this one.
A wool drying basket with legs and a twill pattern. I want to remake this one with a better rim and maybe a plain weave for better air flow for actually drying wool. I used wood grain reed, but I don't feel like the wood grain is noticeable enough to actually be worthwhile. And I don't love the round reed I used as a top accent. Pattern from The Basket Book by Lym Siler.
This basket was inspired by pictures of Josephine's Knot baskets that I kept seeing on Pinterest. This is the longest it ever took me to make a basket, clocking in at a few weeks, but I like how it turned out.
While maybe not the best basket for the job, it does hold a ton of tomatoes.
And this is a slightly wobbly basket I made a bit ago for holding my wool projects. Even though the base isn't totally flat and my rim isn't perfect, I really love this one.
And the viking solid base willow basket! We planted some willow this spring, so I'm hoping to be able to harvest my own and make a bunch more of these in the future.
