Make Do and Mend

Viking style.

In February,  after doing a major clean out and reorganizing of the garb closet (a story for a different post), we discovered that at some point one of Adam's tunics lost a huge portion of one shoulder.

We have no idea when/ where/ how this happened, because he has no memory of catching it on something.  But there was no way to fix it,  because a lot of the fabric is just gone.

He really liked the trim on it so I wanted to see if there was a way to make the best out of weird situation.

I started by taking the measurements of the original to try to match a new tunic to it as closely as possible.  I have a pretty standard format for cutting his tunics that involves almost zero waste out of 2.5 yards of 55-60" fabric,  but the green one had been cut years ago and nothing was the usual size.

The next step was to remove the trim plus green fabric and attach.  The collar/yoke proved to be the trickiest part.

A little top stitching was added for decoration and to hold down the side seams and the transformation was complete.
